I’ve moved on to a new happy relationship with Rena. I still visit Alexia every summer, when Rena goes on her own personal retreat and spends time with her guru. The problem is that during my visits, Alexia tends to act very intimate with me: She wants to watch movies in her waterbed because she says it’s more comfortable. It’s not like she’s putting any moves on me; besides, the bed is chock full of her cats (seven of them), so it’s pretty platonic. Still, she asks me to rub her feet or her back, and sometimes she rubs mine. 1 sometimes feel weird about this, like I’m cheating on Rena, even though I have absolutely no sexual interest in Alexia anymore. At least 1 don’t think so. Well, maybe a little, but I’m conflicted about it and guarding against it and would never act on it. Should 1 feel guilty about this? The whole thing kind of creeps me out, and I am thinking about canceling my trip this year. Do you think I’m overreacting? —Uncomfortable Houseguest D ear U ncomfortable H ouseguest : Yikes! You inhale dander from multiple felines and receive back rubs from a touchy-feely ex on a waterbed while your girlfriend frolics in the woods with her guru. Sounds like a scary right-wing depiction of a squalid lesbian existence. And yet you keep going back for more, which begs the question: Which part of this annual date do you like? Perhaps it’s the arousal that you claim not to expe rience, at least not too much? Might you actually enjoy spending time with your ex, were it not in her fur-laden, seasickness-inspiring crib? Perhaps you’re not thinking out of Alexia's box. 1 fere are a couple of alternatives you might consider, before canceling your visit or submitting to Alexia's feelfest: 1) Visit Alexia but refuse to lie down with her and her bevy of pussies. Hang out in her kitchen instead, where she’s no doubt growing sprouts and composting smelly vegetable skins, but where there’s less risk of an unwanted grope. 2) Watch movies in Alexia’s waterbed, but only after loudly announcing that you have absolutely no interest in getting jiggy with her. Sustain your boundaries by refusing to rub her various parts, even if she begs you or shoves her toes into your lap. In either case, you’ll need to tell her that your body is your temple and that she has to find another place of worship. It doesn’t sound like you have reason to feel guilty, unless you succumb to the lovefest with your ex that you claim can’t happen, based on your lack of attrac tion to her. Sort of. Your uncertainty about this could be a landmine, as you prob ably know (deep inside). If you do happen to find yourself going the other way and watching movies in the catbed while eating snacks, drinking cosmopolitans and rubbing scented oil into Alexia’s breasts, you should begin to consider what might be missing in your relationship with Rena, and why you need a diversion to feel fulfilled. D ear M s . B ehavior : Jim’s new teddy bear is living with him for free in his apartment. At a party recently, the little cub was mouthing off that he didn’t like living with Jim because Jim was messy and not focused enough on his own life. Jim is our best friend. We know how great he is and what a catçh. Should we tell Jim that his little bear has a big stupid mouth and is talking out of turn?
