AUGUST 18. 2006 iustiout northwest WELLS FARGO They Are the Champions After 11 days of competitions and events, the first-ever Outgames came to an end Aug. 5 at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. The closing ceremony, featuring a performance hy legendary gay icon Liza Minnelli, was both a celebration of the event and an opportunity for queer athletes to gather one more time to rejoice in the opportunity to compete out and proud. About 32,000 people attended. The GLBT Caucus of the Democratic Party will co-host the event from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at Crush, 1400 S.E. Morrison St. Equity Foundation Finds Fresh Faces Equity Foundation, a Portland nonprofit that funds organizations serving the sexual minorities community, has recently taken on two part-time employees. Aaron Ridings started as operations coordinator in May, fol lowed by West Duncan, who was hired as communi carions and development coordinator in June. “When 1 was in schixil and really thinking about where I wanted to start out and end up, I said 1 want to work for a queer nonprofit, and Io and behold, I’m here now and it feels so good,” said Duncan, 27, a graduate of Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash. “Overall, Pm thrilled to be a part of Equity Foundation and help shape its future."
