The syphilis rate among gay men in
Sydney, Australia, has increased tenfold since
2000, according to a report in The Medical
Journal of Australia.
Most of the approximately 200 annual
cases are occurring among HIV-positive men.
Syphilis had almost disappeared
from Sydney’s gay community in
the 1990s, hut now, experts say,
many HIV-positive men have
returned to riskier sex practices.
Syphilis also can be spread by
