The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the LCP office in Suite 256 of Union Station, 800 N.W. Sixth Ave. Board member Donna Luckett reports that the meeting will focus on the coming year’s pro gramming and activities, including planning a conference to commemorate the 20 years that LCP has been working in the community. She hopes that old members will get re-engaged and that new members will get involved. “In order to get anything done, the member ship has to be active,” she says. “Too many opin ions and not enough backbone will get us nowhere.” LCP has approximately 200 members and a quarterly newsletter. West, a for mer Republican legislative leader and opponent of gay rights, has been accused of molesting two boys decades ago and more recently offering a City Hall internship during an online chat to someone he thought was a young man but was in reality a computer investigator hired by a Spokane newspaper. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that West, 54, has been on an informal temporary leave and not making comments since shortly after The Spokesman-Review began reporting May 5 that he offered city jobs to young men he met in a gay online chat rixmi. The FBI has opened an inquiry into a possible public corrup tion case involving those allegations. Some media reports quote people as saying this is a ‘tragic’ sit uation for West and imply that his conduct showed he was ‘uncomfortable with his identity.’ Nonsense. Pedophilic behavior is always wrong and has nothing do with sexual orientation. This man—whether he’s straight, bisexual or gay—deserves nothing but scorn. He needs to resign immediately.” For complete information, including chat room transcripts linked to Jim West, visit www.spokesmanreview.com/jimwest.
