My partner and I

both of our pregnan

Our friend Sheila

our donor’s identifi

that she can request the same donor.
We’re flattered that she thinks so
highly of our girls, hut we feel squea

Are we selfish? Should we pass on
the donor’s info and leave it to the
powers that be?

D ear T wo M om s :
Sperm banks typically have hun
dreds of donors from which to
choose, so if you decide not to share
your donor’s identifying information
with Sheila, she could easily pick
another charming candidate. There
are plenty of other spermatozoa in
the fertility sea.
Sharing a sperm donor is an inti
mate matter and may involve more
contact with Sheila
than you want. If
she uses your donor
and has a hahy, your
kids will he biologi
cally related, which
for whatever reason
sounds like a closer
connection than
you’d like to have
with Sheila.
O f course, if
Sheila finds out
where you got the
spooge, she may still
ltxik carefully
through the hxik of
donors and try to
chtxise the same
donor you used.
However, since you
last enlisted your
donor’s services five
years ago, there’s a
gtxxl chance that
his stud days are over. Many sperm
hanks regulate the number of spawn
each donor dude can pnxluce. Often,
after 10 reported births, the sperm
daddy is pur into retirement. (The
reasons for this are fairly obvious; if
any individual fathered hundreds of
babies, it would increase the likeli-
hcxxl that his offspring would end up
randomly meeting and repnxlucing
with one another.)
Don’t worry about being selfish; it
sounds like you’re legitimately con
cerned about keeping certain bound
aries in your friendship with Sheila.
You can he a generous
person and still not
want to share such a
cozy connection. Even
if you were OK with
lending a friend your
sweater or your car, you
might draw the line at
say, a toothbrush, a
girlfriend or some
sperm.
D ear M s . B ehavior :
I’m at the beach
every day this summer.
There’s a lifeguard who
checks me out all the
time. The guy is very hot.
T he problem is when I go over
to talk to him, he has a hundred
excuses for why he has to go and do
other things and can ’t hang out
with me. W hen I go hack to lie
down on my towel with my buddies,
there he is, staring at me all over
again.
I don’t know if he’s shy or what.
The beach is mostly gay, so I don’t
think homophobia is the problem.
My friends say to take a hint. They
try to distract me from thinking about
him. But he’s got eyes for me. 1 can
see it.
— Dormy
D ear D onny :
Hello? Your lifeguard is saving
Queer America
from drowning. He’s
protecting you and
your brothers and
sisters from the
wrath of the sea. If
Mr. Hot Lifeguard
really does gaze in
your direction, it’s
probably not to
admire your dim
ples, your muscula
ture or your basket.
He stares because:
A ) he’s interested
in your obsession
with him even
though he doesn't
want you, or B) you
freak him out and
he worries that
you’re a stalker
about to boil his
bunny.
Your friends
telling you to “take a hint” is enough
pnxif that he doesn’t return your
interest. Whatever you do, please
don’t consider staging a drowning
incident.
Sheila has been
pushing us to
give her the
name of our

and our donor’s

number so that
she can request
the same
donor...
