The event also will feature a reception catered
by Wilf’s, entertainment by Imago Theatre, a
silent auction and the presentation of grants to 33
Oregon nonprofits for their ongoing programs in
arts, culture, youth and family services, health
and human dignity. Tickets cost $25.
“It is the hope and purpose of the association
that it may continue serving the G LB T commu
nity,” hoard members announced Jan. 27. “The
Abdill-Ellis Lambda Community Center has
had a wonderful and colorful history. There is a
chance that [it] may he able to continue opera
tions, if the G LB T community and its friends
respond to this notice and decide to help."

its second “ 100 Chicks, 100 Bucks” party,
which will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the

The event will feature drinks provided by
Hip Chicks Do Wine, food and complimentary
tarot, palm and psychic readings by profession
als; in addition, original artwork will be raffled
off as door prizes. Admission costs $100, which
can be paid in one lump sum or as a $ 10 month
ly pledge.

Bucks” fund-raiser in July as a way of encour
aging more women to become donors. How
ever, organizers note that the event is open to
“chicks of all genders and those who love

quity Foundation, a statewide nonprofit
that supports queer-friendly charities, will
honor two people who have made significant
contributions to the community during its
fourth annual Investments in Dignity Awards

Karen Keeney, a Portland attorney and
founding board member of Equity who has
worked on a wide variety of progressive causes,
will receive the John Grigsby-Jim Vegher
Investments in Dignity Award. In 1992, she was
the first open lesbian to be elected as a delegate
from Oregon to the Democratic National
Convention.
Terry Bean, a real estate entrepreneur,
national Democratic Party strategist and phil
anthropist who has been involved in gay and
lesbian politics since 1972, will receive the
Torchbearer Award. He was an early founder
of Equity, the Right to Privacy PAC, the
Human Rights Campaign and the Gay & Les
bian Victory Fund.

Sex Marriage: A Personal Perspective”
from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Feb. 15 at Northwest Acad
emy, 1130 S.W. Main St.
Jim Morris and Richard Colombo, who have
been in a committed relationship for nearly six
years, will discuss the current status of the issue
in the United States, the role of religion on both
sides of the debate and the proposed constitu
tional amendment to define “marriage.” The
presentation, sponsored by the Humanists of
Greater Portland, is free, but donations will be
accepted.
