Portland” Award for her contributions to the
city Dec. 4.
For 3 1/2 decades, Walter Cole has not only
entertained the city but enriched it by per

porting the area’s gay, lesbian, bi and trans res
idents. According to the mayor’s office, Dar
celle was honored for joining with other
organizations fighting the A ID S crisis; regular
ly contributing to scholarship funds for chil
dren of gay and lesbian families; and represent
ing a social space that points to a broader sense
of what it means to be an accepting and open
community.
“Whenever asked, Darcelle provides her
rare talent to worthy causes,” a news release
stated. “Darcelle has never had to do worry
much about marketing, as she is constantly
being asked to perform for community func
tions and is known for seldom refusing.”
The awards are presented annually to peo
ple who have made outstanding contributions
to the community during the past year. Win Darcelle X V dons Royal Rosarían drag as Mayor

With 2004 promising to be a white-hot elec
tion year, the board of Pride Northwest chose
“Queer We G o Again" as next year’s theme,
adding a dose of political satire to the mix.
Robby Bricker won dinner for two at the Fish
Grotto for entering this suggestion into the
theme contest.
The Pride festival will be held June 19 and
20 at Waterfront Park. The parade will wind
through the streets of downtown June 20.
Pride Northwest’s new president and parade
coordinator is Tobin Britton, a member of the
Rain Ryders Motorcycle Club, American Broth-
erhixxl, National Leather Association and Soci
ety of the Black Rose. She replaces Jack Keegan,
who resigned because of schixil and work
demands.
The other board members are Patricia
Muhlbauer, vice president and security coordina
tor; AJ Gxirts, secretary and sponsorship coordi
nator; Joe Dressman, treasurer and media coordi
nator; Jimmy Yohe, entertainment coordinator;
and Jeska Duckworth, festival coordinator.
Pride Northwest still needs committee chairs
for fund raising, outreach and technology as well
as co-chairs for the entertainment, festival and
parade committees. Applications are due
Dec. 31.
Plenty of volunteer opportunities are available
to help organize Portland Pride 2004. People espe
cially are needed on the entertainment, festival
and parade committees.
The entertainment committee also is seek
ing performers of all ages and backgrounds to
participate in Portland Pride 2004. Musicians,
speakers, authors, poets and artists are encour
