movement can register now to take part in
“ Intersexuality: An Interdisciplinary Explo
ration”— probably the only course of its kind in
the world— from June 23 to July 17 at Portland
State University. It will be taught for the second
time by Intersex Initiative director Emi Koyama.
“Intersexuality” is an interdisciplinary explo
ration on social, medical, biological and political
issues surrounding intersexuality and the lives of
intersex people. First, students will learn basic bio
logical facts about intersexuality as well as the cur
rent treatment protocol on intersex conditions.
Second, they will read about the patient-centered
reform movement by intersex people as well as
among medical professionals. Lastly, students will
learn to critically analyze medical, academic and
popular culture texts produced about intersexuality
from the patient-centered point of view. The class
concentrates on discussions about readings but also
incorporates lectures, films and guest speakers.
This four-credit course is offered through the
Womens Studies Department of Portland State
University and is supervised by Ann Mussey. It
meets from 1 to 3:20 p.m. Monday through
Thursday.
Koyama will deliver the keynote address dur
ing a rally prior to the Seattle Dyke March, which
steps off 7 p.m. June 28 from the Seattle Central
Community College Plaza at Broadway and Pine
in Capitol Hill. The event starts about 5 p.m. and
features bands, perfonners and speakers.

the class June 23 in Room 150 of Cramer Hall,
