he season has arrived for what is surely
Portland’s most tastebud-pleasing fund
raiser. Dinner at My House for Our House
benefits Our House, the only residential
care facility o f its kind in the Northwest for
people living with A ID S.
List year’s 65 dinners brought in $65,000 for
the Southeast Portland nonprofit, hut organizers,
who are celebrating the event’s 10th anniversary,
anticipate exceeding their $75,000 goal this year.
Founded in 1988, the 12-bed Our House
provides 24-hour medical services and has
cared for 400 residents. T h e agency was created
as an A ID S hospice but has since expanded its
services to keep up with the changing nature of
the disease. These days, people can stop by to
get regular medications, to receive nutrition
advice or simply to talk. Specialized care is in
place for those in advanced stages.
Dinner at My House, considered to he one
of Portland’s premier culinary events, will offer
more than 80 delectable meals served in private
homes, gardens and restaurants through March
2003. Chefs of all varieties will be serving their
creations, including Caprial and John Pence of
Caprial’s Bistro, Philippe Boulot of the Heath-
man Restaurant and Wcxxly Clark of Crush.
Dinners are priced between $ 6 0 and $ 150 a
person, depending on the menu and variables
such as location and entertainm ent. Each host
covers the cost of the dinner party and donates
all proceeds to Our House.
T he range o f meals being offered is astound
ing. From Cajun to Tuscan, tapas to Indian,
Japanese to Mediterranean and American bar
becue to French, dinners will span the seasons.

Park Bailey and Richard Kroll will play host to
a candlelight seafixxJ dinner on New Year’s Eve
in their historic Laurelhurst home.
Former Gov. Barbara Roberts and Human
Rights Campaign founding board member
Terry Bean have been playing host to dinners
together for four years. “Dinner at My House is
a fun and easy way to support a great organiza
tion,” Bean says. “It’s always fun to see who will
show up. We meet new people every year.”
Our House board member Barbara Dunn has
been attending the fund-raiser for seven years.
She has worked directly with it for two years
and is very enthusiastic about its possibilities.
“It’s an honor to be part of Our House,”
Dunn exclaims. “I have met so many people
over the years. Every year I buy several dinners,
and it is a treat I look forward to all year.”
inner at My House has come a long way
since its inception. Created by George
Eighmey, Margie Boule and Diane Tutch,
the series started with seven dinners and raised
about $3,000. T he event has grown 12-fold in
10 years, and diners are making reservations for
as many as 20 people at a time.
“W hat makes the dinner series so special is
the wide spectrum of people who want to support
care for people living with A IDS at Our House.

for anyone. W hether
you wish to satiate your
culinary curiosities, make new friends or enjoy
some of the most inviting homes in Portland,
the dinner series is for you.”
T h e series has also received consistent sup
port from corporate sponsors through the
years, including Seattle’s Best Coffee, Ten
Speed Press, the Greenbrier Companies and
Caprial’s Bistro. Their support, Jefferson says,
“is crucial to the success of this event, and we
are very grateful they are a part of cxir fund
raising team.”
In celebration o f the fund-raiser’s 10th
anniversary, Our House is organizing a spe
cial meal for all the dinner hosts. Program
co-chairs Caprial and John Pence are offering
their new cooking school space in Sell wood as
the venue for the cocktail and food gathering
this month. It will only be the beginning of
months of mouth-watering meals and good
company for a crucial cause. j H
