The Portland businessman has accepted a position as co-chairman of the organizations capital campaign. He was selected along with several new board members during a meeting Dec. 8 and 9 in Houston. HRC announced Nov. 9 that it signed a con tract to purchase a building at 1640 Rhode Island Ave. The eight-story structure is under going reconstruction. Last April, H RC announced it would con struct a new building on a vacant lot at 1616 Rhode Island Ave. Since then, it says several existing structures came onto the market and presented more fiscally prudent options. The purchase price for the new building is $9.8 million. Additional renovation costs of T he YW CA of Greater Portland Counseling C enter has received a grant from the Pride Foundation to assist sexual minority youth in the community. T he program, which uses a sliding-fee scale, is one of only a few remaining in the area offer ing services at a rate that is affordable to low- income people. In his latest attempt to avoid paying more than $31,000 owed to the photojoumalist, he had the case removed to fed eral court. A ttorney Brent Foster called it another last- ditch effort to avoid the inevitable. He is work ing to have the case removed back to state court. “T hey will have to face th e consequences, but n o t right now,” Foster said. “W e’re going to be asking th a t they face th e contem pt of court sanctions for their violations of past court orders as well as their failure to appear today. Bean is a member of the board of directors for both HRC, the nations largest lesbian and gay advocacy organization, and the HRC Foundation, its educational arm.
