T h e group will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13 at 309 W. 12th Ave. “We need to know where to put our energy for older LGBTs,” says Llyn Zephyr, Sexual Minority Services Project executive director. “Their input would be very valuable." Last m onth’s meeting addressed how to improve services for trans people in southwest Washington. T he roundtable decided support groups will begin meeting in January for trans individuals, their children and their partners. O ur all-vol unteer organization is currently working like gangbusters on redesigning the space and devel oping quality programming.” T he city’s Neighborhood Fund and a recent Architectural Services grant will cover much of the cost of the remodel. “The grants won’t cover everything we want to do,” Hanses says. “In order make the space something to be proud of and to make the most of our grant funds, we need help from volunteers and contractors willing to donate their time and businesses willing to donate materials.” Contractors are encouraged to contact the center to be included in the bid process. "We are hoping that tradespeople in the community step forward now and volunteer their time to help with the remodel," Hanses says. The center also is seeking businesses that are interested in becoming Building Sponsors for the project by making a donation of materials including lumber, beams, concrete, drywall, insulation, windows, carpet, furnace, ducting, lighting, wiring, paint and tools. Also needed are new or used furnishings such as desks, chairs, file cabinets, bookshelves, office partitions, a conference table, telephones, computers, print ers, a copier and an exterior sign. Individuals in the community can contribute materials and furnishings as well. Sponsors and donors will be recognized at the center’s grand opening. “Support from our community has made all the difference in the world getting us to this exciting point,” Hanses says. “The time has come to build a welcoming home for Seattle’s LGBT community.” For more information contact Mark Hanses at 206'325'3042 or info@seattlelght.org.
