Speak out Applause, applause! ueer theater in Portland got a big boost recently when Triangle Productions received two major grants, the largest in the company’s history. The Meyer Memorial Trust has awarded the company a matching grant for $52,000, and the Collins Foundation has plunked down an outright grant of $45,000. Presenting primarily gay-themed works, the company is helmed by Donald Horn. Its upcom ing season, which starts in September, promises to n June 17, the Rose City Softball Associa tion took on the Portland Police Bureau in Grudge Match 2000 at Farragut Park. Tliis was the fifth year for the event, and the RCSA all-stars topped the cops 17-13. RCSA teams play July 9 at Montavilla Park and July 16 at Westmoreland Park. Walsh is presenting his project “Structuring Fear,” a dialogue on AIDS, under the aus pices of New York City art funding organiza tion Creative Time. His project can be viewed online through July by mousing to www.creativetime.org and clicking on “Daily Dispatch.” Each day of July will feature a new image and short text by Walsh. International artists, activists and writers will correspond for a month each, telling the story of how the AIDS pandemic is impacting their community. Walsh describes his losses through his multimedia, site-specific installations from 1985 through 2000. A gay man and AIDS activist, he has shown his installations inter nationally and throughout the United States. Sixth Ave. The electra-acid jazz starts flowing at 6 p.m. with the open ing act, Mrs. Fun, whose music is self- styled as “a provocative blend of off-center, ultrafunk, spoken-word rap and their own brand of neocabaret.’' The same show plays the following night at Cuthbert Amphitheater in Eugene.
