Irving faces protesters David Irving— the British citizen who publicly promotes the theory that the Nazi Holocaust did not happen— was met by an angry crowd o f pro testers during his visit to a Portland church Oct. 10. An estim ated 200 protesters representing an array o f groups including the Coalition for Human Dignity, the American Jewish Committee, Ecu menical M inistries o f Oregon, and Congregation Havurah Shalom attended a vigil outside o f Colo nial Heights Presbyterian Church in Southeast Portland. About 100 people attended Irving’s speech inside the church. “ Irving trades on his reputation as a ‘historian’ to spread anti-Semitic propaganda and to rehabili tate the Third Reich,” says Steven Gardiner, CHD research director. “The ultimate effect o f Irving’s Holocaust denial is to promote a new Nazi move ment that has taken its toll in human lives.” According to Gardiner, Irving is banned in five countries— Austria, Australia, Canada, France and G erm any— and has strong ties to the European neo-Nazi movement. CHD says it has found evi dence that Irving’s speaking date was handled by a “ neo-Nazi organization called Northwest Con cern, which seeks to create an all-white ‘Aryan state’ in the Pacific Northwest.” CALL 233-5001 I f Y ou C an ’ t G et A L oan F rom U s , Y ou C an ’ t G et a L oan Cfl)e llancffe affconueniionaf ancfnonconuen/ionalfoans. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ M First Time Home Buyers Programs Self-Employed Borrowers Bankruptcies & Foreclosures Complicated Borrowers Investment Properties ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Manufactured Housing/Lond Credit Problems Debt Consolidation 3% Down Programs Pre-approvals for Purchase M en’s Chorus, and The NAM ES Project, is par ticipating in the federal Charitable Fund C am paign, the State Combined Fund Drive, and work place giving cam p aigns at M etro, T ri-M et, Multnomah County, Portland Public Schools, and the cities o f Portland and Eugene.
