New bus line? Tri-A-Dyke The Lesbian Avengers offered alternative evening rush-hour transportation in downtown Portland, on Sept. 10, in the form of a large cardboard bus. The event was intended to call attention to the apparent indifference of Tri-Met personnel to harassment of lesbians and gay men while riding the bus. The Homophobic Violence Reporting Line documented 14 such cases last year. The most recent incident occurred in July, when a woman was verbally assaulted and struck in the face. The driver did nothing to assist her. Commuters were handed leaflets during the action, but seemed generally impassive, said ob server Ani Haines. The Avengers are calling on Tri-Met to offer anti-homophobic workshops to its employees and to develop and enforce a harass ment intervention policy. 25 Dealer Spaces OLD TOWN Open 7 Days bisexual youth. First Ave. Portland, Oregon (503) 228-3386 “Fight the Right” Day on KBOO Tuesday, Oct. 5, KBOO Community Radio will present lectures, panel discussions and spe cial programs focusing on the agenda of, and struggles against, the Christian Right. Coverage will run from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Featured pro grams include a series of five half-hour documen taries entitled “In Jesus’ Name: The Politics of Bigotry.” It is produced by Barbara Bernstein, and will air between 9 am and 1 pm. The first segment presents voices of proponents of the Christian Right, recorded at events such as the Family Congress held in California in 1993. Juxtaposed with these voices is commentary by Berkeley writer Sara Diamond, author of Spiritual Warfare: The Politics of the Christian Right, and Jerry Sloan, a Sacramento gay rights activist. Other segments look at events surrounding Ballot Mea sure 9, Colorado’s Amendment 2, the aftermath of Measure 9 and the techniques and ideology of the Christian Right. Also planned is a two-hour segment hosted by Linda Shirley, with discussion by local activists about the issues and strategies involved in prepa ration for the next wave of battles with the Oregon Citizens Alliance. David Mixner, gay activist and President Clinton’s Senior Campaign Advisor, is the guest speaker for the Right To Privacy Political Action Committee’s Lucille Hart Dinner on Oct. 16. Right To Privacy PAC advocates for equality for Oregon’s gay men, lesbians and bisexuals, en dorses political candidates and contributes to cam paigns supporting gay and lesbian civil rights. The Lucille Hart Dinner is Right To Privacy’s princi pal fundraiser. Mixner’s involvement in the gay and lesbian civil rights movement is both political and per sonal. He will bring a combination of private and public agendas to his speech at the dinner. In. addition to Mixner, this year’s entertainer is Latina comedian Marga Gomez.
