Athena Paradise Portland The pros Here’s a way for any of us who are profession als to enlist our colleagues’ help in defeating Ballot Measure 9. First, get a list of all your colleagues from your state licensing board. (The list is public information and should be provided to you free.) Then send a personal fundraising letter to as many of your colleagues as you can. Include information sheets from the No on 9 campaign and envelopes for colleagues to send their checks to the campaign. The No on 9 campaign can help you with your letter, and I’d be glad to send you a copy of my letter to colleagues if you want to see it. Fundraising combined with education and com ing out can be very effective. The important thing is for each of us to do whatever we can to make sure Ballot Measure 9 does not pass. Call 757- 2066. Doris A sample letter from Eugene Lesbians Against Nine Dear I am writing to ask your help in defeating State Ballot Measure 9. The sponsors of the measure are using gay men and lesbians like myself as scapegoats for people’s frustrations over the bad economy, for widespread feelings of powerlessness, for the need many have to erase their insecurities and fears by feeling ‘better” than someone else. With Measure 9, the OCA is deliberately preying on these fears about the health of our society, distrib uting ugly misinformation about us and basically Dear Hope all is going well for you and your family. I’m writing this letter to share with you a very deep concern I have. As you are probably aware, this November’s Oregon ballot includes a hid eous proposal commonly known as Ballot Mea sure 9. If passed. Measure 9 will deprive me and many of my friends of some very basic human rights protection. In some cases, it may actually require discrimination and censorship. And be cause Measure 9 would be an amendment to the Oregon constitution, we will have little or no recourse under Oregon law. I have enclosed information that will give you more details. If you would like to talk about it further, please give me a call at my home phone.
