Lavender lights illuminate Empire State Building The Empire State Building in New York City was lit up in lavender for that city’s Gay Pride Weekend. The management of the famous building had refused requests from the gay and lesbian community in New York City for years, but decided this year to illuminate the building. A representative of the management said the merit of the gay and lesbian community’s argument, the size of the event and its signifi cance to the community made a lot of sense and the management believed it was the appropriate thing to do. The “Facts on AIDS” pamphlet urges whites to "save the white race from extinction." The otherwise unknown group, the AIDS Informa tion Distribution Society, which published the brochure claims that AIDS can be spread by casual contact via toilet seats and swimming pools and at multi-racial churches which distribute communion wafers. Police say the pamphlets have not caused any problems and they would not take action unless they receive public complaints. The South African government used to claim that the African National Congress, the main black political movement, was bringing AIDS into the country when its alleged guerillas infiltrated the border. The ordinance does not include health care for domestic partners. Initiative 35, if passed, will repeal the rights of domestic partners to take leave to care for one another.
