Throughout her years o f involvement in the Portland lesbian and gay community. Sashie has been a key member of Lesbian Community Project, Lesbian Aging Project, Defenders of Mithra, Portland Women’s Theater Company and Portland Power and Trust. As Oregon State Leatherwoman III. Currently a number of projects are underway to raise funds for treatment, travel and living expenses; individual money raising by mem bers o f the Lesbian Community Project, the National Leather Association activities at the Living in Leather Conference II, and a fund raiser on September 20th at the Club 927. The Seattle/Portland Lesbian Erotica Review will be returning. Joining them, for a community first, will be a men’s erotic review. For the years o f support and giving of herself, Sashie Hyatt has provided us, we need now to return that support during her struggle for life. The increasingly anti-gay, anti-feminist, anti-choice, anti-birth control, and other reac tionary positions of the Catholic Church can be laid directly at the feet o f Pope John Paul II. It is important that American citizens who disagree make their views known so that the American people will acknowledge that everyone does not agree with the dangerous positions of the Catholic church. Gay people especially have suffered at the hands o f this Pope — he has called homosexual ity an intrinsic evil.
