The M ain C linic of W estern State s C hiro p ra c tic College w ill present a free child ren's health screening in the Gate way area of Portland from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 26. The screening w ill include a spinal ex am ination and testing of the heart, lungs, eyes, ears, nose and throat by supervised interns from WSCC. C hildren may receive a dental exam by a local dentist and a comprehensive eye exam by supervied optometry students from Pacific University. The appointm ent w ill include a consul tation and referral to other health care sp e c ia lists if necessary. Appointments are required and may be made by eating 255-6771. Portland artists Melinda Thomsnes ex hib its recent works at Portland Community C o lle g e 's North View G allery October 2- 30. The ga llery is located at the PCC Sy I vania Cam pus, 12000 SW 49th Avenue. The public is invited to view the exhibit during college business hours, and to meet the artist at a gallery reception from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday. October 2. Tapestries created by children living in el Batram , Egypt, w ill be featured in an exhibition at the Oregon School of Arts and C rafts from October 10 through Novem ber 7. The exhibition opens with a reception Thursday, October 10, from 5 30- 8:30 p.m. The children, ranging in age from eight to twenty, work d a ily at the Atelier de la Pyram ide. a workshop founded in 1965 by Dr. A m ir Aly, professor of cinematography at C airo University. Their tapestries depict scenes from their everyday life, and are created with wool they have selected and dyed themselves. A ly w ill be in Portland during the exhibi tion, and w ill give a gallery talk on the tapestries on October 15, at 12 noon. Also at noon, Geary Jones and David Johnson, local tapestry artists, w ill discuss the pro cess of creating their collaborative pieces. Hoffman G allery hours are 10-5, Monday through Thursday, and 10-4 Fri day through Saturday. Exhibitions at the Hoffman G allery are supported in part by the Metropolitan Arts Comm ission.
