This year’s Lesbian and Gay Pride C o m m ittee has planned a m arch and rally that will be “Alive with Pride in ’8 5 ” for Saturday, June 15th. M archers will assem ble in the North Park Blocks (Couch and Park, N W ) and be gin at 12:00 noon on a route down Stark Street, ending up at T o m McCall Waterfront Park, w here the rally and celebration will be gin at 1.00 PM. T he rally will include speakers and entertainers, as well as booths providing inform ation, T-shirts, food, and more. This year’s speakers include Valerie Terrigno, lesbian m ayor of the newly created city o f West Hollywood, Califonia. Ms. Terrigno received the m ost votes in a field of 4 0 candidates and was chosen by her city council m ate to be the first openly lesbian m ayor o f an Am erican city. T h e rally will truly be an entertainm ent event, with perform ances by the Portland Gay M e n ’s Chorus, local folk rocker Kate Sullivan, and Rom anovsky and Phillips, the accom p lished m u sical/co m ed y do from San Francisco. The m o n th of June offers a cornucopia of special events, and efforts will be m ade to publicize regular weekly and m onthly events as well. Special events in June include the m arch and rally, a 10th Anniversary Dignity Service, a S tem w heeler cruise, a W indfire benefit show at Darcelles, M C C ’s Father's Day Service with the Chorus, a Gay Day in the Park, the annual Stonewall Run, various forums, workshops, discussions, and receptions, and the tradi tional candlelight vigil. And on June 28th, the Portland Gay M e n ’s Chorus will appear with the L A Chorus at the Arlene Schnitzer C o n cert Hall. This year, the spirit of celebration and pride typically present at the m arch and rally p ro m ises to start early and last the whole month.
