The 12 counties of eastern Oregon and Well ington that must be considered tributa ries to the waters of the Columbia and Snake rivers contain 1,414 survived townships, or 23,570,650 acres. In the earlier settlement of Kastcrn Oregon, i preference was given strictly to valley lauds.
