For the age of
this city and tak
ing into account
that in the inaugu

for the general
welfare of the city,
many heavy ex

incurred, Portland
may well be proud
of her schools and
school buildings.

the earlier years,
so little anticipa

that such buildings
as the Ilarrison-st.

were poorly adap

the department in
a very few years.
