7 May. THE WEST SHORE. OREGON AHEAD. Our California neighbors do not very often praise Oregon. The following from the San Francisco Tost will therefore be read with much interest : Our neighbors of Oregon esjwcially give promise of converting that country' into one of the foremost wheat exporting States of the Union, and they have in the valleys of Willamette, Umpqua, and Rogue river, and in the Dalles and Umatilla region, room for a great extension of wheat culti vation. They , have this advantage of California that their soil does not wear out, and that the crops arc never destroyed or seriously impaired by drouih. It will be no greit surprise to us if in the course of next decade Oregon shall surpass Cali fornia in the production and export of this staple, nor, indeed, if she becomes the foremost of all States as a wheat exporter," The last issue of Samuels' West Shore has a fine view of First street, Portland, looking south from Alder. Besides this, arc several interesting cuts of lesser note. The paper is fdled with interesting reading by our best authors. As a supplement, Mr, Samuel presents his readers with a fac simile copy of the Ortgon Sfcdafor. the first newspaper published in Oregon. The paper was started in Oregon City, then the capital of the Territory, February 5, 1846. Wc think the present number of the West Shore excels any previous issue of that interesting paper and augurs the ultimate success of its cnterprbing founder. AsUrt'an. Asfarui Dim Diithkria. A gentleman who lias ad ministered the following remedy for dip thcria, says that it has always proved effectual in adording speedy relief; Take a common tobacco-pipe, place a live coal within the bowl, drop a little tar ujhoii the coal, and let the juliem draw smoke into the mouth, and discharge it through the nostrils. The remedy is safe and simple, and should be tried whenever occasion may require. Many valuable lives maybe saved, the informant confidently believes, by prompt treatment as above. For Sale. We have for sale at this office a large number of electro -plates of different subjects. They are mounted, type high, and can be used on any ordinary printing press. All persons desiring to print attractive advertising cards, will find these electrc-plates just the thing. We are now engravtng, and will in the next number of the West Shore print fac similas of the beautiful Silver Cup and Gold Medals to be awarded as the Centen nial prizes at our forthcoming celebration in this city.
