Watson of Ashland visited his relatives here, the Chitwood family, Friday night and Saturday. Judge Watson is attorney for the Hartman Shale Oil Syn dicate, which is operating near Ashland. He feels sure that when this industry is de veloped properly it will prove to be the greatest thing ever discovered in Southern Ore gon, outside of the mining industry. The gas to be manufactured from this shale oil will be sufficient to pro vide heat for every home in Rogue River Valley — at about one-third the cost of wood. Delbert Fehl, the “notor ious poetic editor” of the Medford Record Herald, was a visitor in Jacksonville Wednesday. Delbert is high ly excited and elated over the prospect of completing the road from here to the Oregon Caves—35 miles west* of Jacksonville. He said he would gladly use what influ ence he and his paper could muster up in having this road paved from Medford to the Caves, via Jacksonville and Applegate. Capt. H. A. Canaday takes to his new work as register of the U. S. land office in Roseburg “like a duck takes to water” — and of course will give entire satisfaction. The first homestead notice to appear in the Post over his name is that of Frank P. Dutton, in this issue. As we go to press, the news is received that a fabulously rich platinum vein has been found in the Sterling creek district, just south of Jack sonville, which assa\s $19,000 to the ton—with enough of the ore in sight to supply the world with platinum. , Notice of Hearing Final Account of Executor.
