Good news for the lumber
manufacturers of Jackson
county was contained in a re­
cent announcement by the
Southern Pacific that, begin­
ning Oct. 31, Medford will
have the same rate to South­
ern California points as has
Klamath Falls, Weed and
other competing points to
the east and south. The new
rate from Medford to Los
Angeles'will be 43c, instead
of 65c, and to San Francisco
23c instead of 39c. This re­
duction in rates may encour­
age another mill or two to
go in at Jacksonville—the
best sawmill site in Oregon.
The open season for hunt­
ing pheasant and quail will
open Sunday, 14th, and end
the third Sunday in October1
—the 21st. The deer hunt­
ing season, which opened
Sept. 10, will end the last
day of this month. The sea­
son for ducks and geese,
which began Oct. 1st, will
last until Jan. 15th.
The grand jury will con­
vene next Monday, 15th, and
the regular October term of
circuit court will begin a
week later—on October 22.
The criminal docket this
time is unusually short, but!
the usual long string of civil
cases will come up for hear-i
ing.
