The cement plant at Gold Hill has re opened under new management. Gus Mitchell, who has been employed at Weed, Calif., has returned to this city. A. B. Lundberg was fined $50 for vagrancy by Justice Taylor in Medford Tuesday. Herbert Luunspach and Leon Lawton of Medford were i n town Monday afternoon. Robert Fletcher and family has mov ed into the Ryan house, opposite the Post office. Mrs. Julia Roundtree and Mrs. Ella Walsh were recent visitors in the Eagle Point District. Frank O. Cronemiller of L03 Angeles was in town Sunday visiting with Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cronemiller. Chas. Nickells, a former well known citizen of this place, was renewing ac quaintances here this week. Rolling Filter, who has been in the Marine Corps, has been discharged and returned to his home recently. The Nordwich ranch at Table Rock has been sold to W. E. Morris of Santa Anna, Calif., for $30,0110. P. A. Worden of Portland was fined $250 and costs by Justice Taylor tor having 25 gallons of whiskey in his possession. T. J. Kenney, who has been in Alaska for several months and who recently returned to his home ir. M edford, was in town this week. Medford has been run over with crime this week. One honse being ran sacked, a bold hold-up and a few small things like Fords being stolen. B. B. Beekman of Portland came down this week to accompany his mother, Mrs. J. E. Beekman, and sis ter, Miss Carrie Beekman, to Portland. They left Thursday morning. R. A. Rowley, an old time pioneer of this valley, died at the Sacred Heart Hospital Friday morning, as a result of injuries sustained when his horse became frightened at the cut-out of a passing motorist. Mrs. A. H. Ballard, of San Fran cisco, daughter of William G. Kenney, is visiting friends and relatives in town today. Mrs. Ballard is on her wav to Boston to join her husband, who is in the government service there. The un-Americanism in the Jackson ville school, which the Medford papers have mentioned, has been found to be the product of some person’s imagi- nation. As a result of this gossip, the local school received some very nn- fav orabie advertising. The final investigation of the rates a id charges of the Pacific Telephone & Tele? raph Co. by the Public Service C .mmission will be held in Portland, Nov. 12. Evans, arrested in Klamath Fai's on the charge of robbing a jitney driver at this place, was brought back here by Sheriff Terrill this week. In addition to furnishing rations and comforts and medical attention to the fighting men, the American Red Cross Instituted 42 soup kitchens, 30 children's hospitals, 10 children’s dispensaries, 14 artificial limb factories, five homes for refugee children, 10 rest stations for refugees.
