TO SETTLERS
93,000 Acres Between Coos
Bay and Roseburg For­
feited to the Gov-

San Francisco, Feb. 13—Ninety-six
thousand acres of Oregon lands lying
between Coos Bay and Roseburg was
ordereI forfeited to the government tn
a decision today by the United States
circuit court of appeals here, sustain­ ■
ing the decision of the Oregon court
■nd throwing the land open to settlers.
The land was granted to the Coos
Bay Wagon company by congress in
1867 with provision that it should not
be sold at more than t>2.50 per acie nor
more than 160 acies to any individual.
Subsequently it fell into the hands of
the Southern Oregon company, the de­
fendants, against whom the govern­
ment brought suit to recover title, al­
leging violation of the provisions of the
grant.
It was said that the Southern Oregon
company will take an appeal to the
United States supreme court.
