May 1917 be the best year in your life, and may we all be able to cope with every adverse incident or condition which may confront us during the coming year. •» 4 Good Resolutions Not Alone on New Year. Of course It Is customary to make New Ycnr's day the day of new reso lutions. but there Is no particular -ea son why we should confine this work to this one day In the year. In fact, the very best resolution we can make on New Year's day Is to resolve that during the coming year we will use every endeavor to make each day a day of self Improvement: that not a single day shall pass upon which we have not attempted to speak a good word or do a kind deed for somebody; that not a day shall pass upon which we will not try to weed out some of the tares and brambles of character tbut now offend others or some of the bad habits that offend even ourselves I will try to be a lifter, not a leaner; an encourager, never a discourager; lighten and share other people’s sorrows; start songs and rejoicings, not complainings; make the world I a little sweeter place to live in; keep in mind the will of God; make sunshine in life's shady places; see the bright f side of everything; be clean in 4 mind and body, working pa- Pay Up Day In China. < > tiently, industriously and hon- ;•• At the Chinese New Year the houses <► I estly for a living; earning a j and other buildings are decked with flowers, and the streets are thronged < > spotless character, so that I < > with people, who come out to buy pro can look up, not down, and i visions, new clothes and gifts.
