The Martin Verdict Again.
The Martin trial has been discussed considerably during
the past week, among the papers discussing the matter
was the Ashland Tidings, which advises the Tribune to
lodge its complaint against the prosecuting attorney in

special credit for the acquittal, declaring that the verdict
was due to facts. He also states that the criticism of
the sheriff and deputy Wilson is most unfair.

have been selected that would have convicted Martin, if
there had not been a syllable of evidence introduced ex­
cept that produced by the state itself, which evidence
showed a case of self-defense,”
The Central Point Herald publishes a letter by one
Simpson Wilson, in which the writer at considerable
length defends Martin and the jury, and denounces the
witnesses for the state.
Discussion of the matter can be productive of no good
farther than to bring the facts regarding the trial, to the
attention of those not present during the hearing of the
case and to set right many false reports which have been
circulated.

It was summer time, and when we
reached the cabin the escaped prisoner
sat on the doorstep with a shotgun
