A bill was intro- dsced in the house by Massey of Wash ington to abolish the Ashland normal and another was introduced in the senate by Barrett of Umatilla to re vive the Weston normal. The first move involving the old nor mal school situation was made a day or two ago when the Jackson county del egation in the house introduced a bill providing for a millage tax for the support and maintenance of the old Ashland normal, which along with the Weston normal had the breath ot life struck from it when the legislature refused to make an appropriation for them. It is evident the bill came as a sur prise to the Umatilla county delegation because members in the house said they did not care to revive the fight, but intended to introduce a bill provid ing for transferring the Weston nor mal property to the Weston school dis trict. The Jackson county members assert they have seventeen senators pledged to their bill, so they feel sure of get ting it through the upper house. The plan is to pass the bill through the senate first and thus give it that much better standing in the house, where the fight will concentrate. ----------- »&«---------- Wm.
