most of her deck fixing have already
been washed away and the vessel is
breaking up.
The Rosecrans, which was formerly
a federal transport went ashore early
this morning while trying to negotiate
the Columbia Bar in the teeth of a
howling gale. She is wedged into the
end of the spit, where she lies exposed
to the full brunt of the storm. Her
$18,000 cargo, consisting of 18,000
barrels of crude oil was awash early.
