ment known as the Boy Scout move­
ment was orginated in this town
amongst the boys themselves. 29

this 22 seven h we qualified as Second
Class Scouts and will receive the
certificates and badges as such as scon
as they come to hand. The names of
the seven are Noble Caughtheran,
Charlie Ellis. Ivan Collins, Dan Bag­
shaw, Herbert Mitchell, Glenn Collins,
Albert Mitchell.
Mr. Editor, I- wish to take off my
hat to these seven boys, because with-
i out the usual inducements of candy
I suppers and social attractions and in
I the face of a good deal that was dis­
couraging, they .have accomplished so
much. ,Tis true more than seven
might have been induced to qualify by
introducing a spirit of .competition or
rivalry, but this is contrary to the
spirit of the movement.
The following is the substance of
what has been done and ought to en­
courage others to make better time.
1. Elementary first aid.
2. Elementary knowledge of the
Morse code (nearly all can receive and
send messages in this code.)
3. Track another scout half a mile.
4. Go a mile in 12 minutes"
5. Lay and light a fire using not
more than two matches.
6. Cook a quarter of a pound of
meat and two potatoes satisfactorily.
7. Know the sixteen principal points
of the compass.
