LOCAL NEWS The pullic schools resumed work Tuesday morning. J. P. Wells spent New Years at his home in Ashland. B. F. Mulkey was a visitor at Ashland Saturday. Mrs. Amy Dow is assisting in the county clerk’s office. Miss Mattie Williams of Medford was a visitor in town Tuesday. Mrs. D. W. Bagshaw has been quite ill this week, but is improving. Frank Neil of Eagle Point is work ing at the court house this week. Death Valley “Scotty” was report ed as being in Ashland last week. J. J. Mears, the waterworks con tractor returned from Portland Mon day. Miss Leia Prim has returned to her school at Eugene, after spending the holidays at home. Fred Fick returned Monday from Portland where he had spent the Christmas holidays. Henry Grimes, formerly of this city, now of Klamath Falls, visited friends and relatives here this week. The Editorial Association of Jackson county held an informal meeting at Medford Sunday afternoon. T. W. Osgood, of Medford, the engineer in charge of construction of the city waterworks was in town Tuesday. Geo. L. Davis of Medford, the new county commissioner, was in attendance at the sessions of the county court this week. The funeral of Joseph Krewson, who died at the Ashland hospital Sunday, was held in this city Tuesday forenoon. The Silas J. Day Abstract Co. have been making needed improvements to their office rooms in the shape of new paper, etc. Geo. Barnum who spent the holidays with friends on the Applegate has re- turned home and is again working on the limited. The lecture and song service at the Presbyterian church, Tuesday evening was pronounced “very good” by many of those present. Frank Coleman who is attending the O. A. C., and who spent the holidays at home, left Monday morning to go back to school. Mrs. J. F. Miller is now Deputy at the postoffice in place ot L. Stansell who has accepted a position in the Bank of Jacksonville. Miss Emma Wulf of Klamath Falls, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. L. Stone of Forest Creek, is spending * the week in Jacksonville. Miss Francis Nunan and Mrs. Josephine Russell and son will leave Monday for -San Jose, Calif, where they will visit until June.
