Judge J. R. Neil and Emil Britt
have returned from Portland where
they attended the Masonic Lodge.
Miss M. B. Towne, the popular
deputy county clerk, has returned from
a vacation spent in the northern part
of the state.

busy trimming some of the shade trees
along the residence streets this week.
The Mail-Tribune announces that
Sheriff Jones will be a candidate for
re nomination on the Democrat ticket.
He has made an efficient officer.
To-morrow Central Point will cross
bats with the home team, on the
diamond at this place. Our boys feel
sure that they will win. Better come
out and see it.
Miss Lelia Prim has returned from
Oakland Oregon, where she has been
teaching school. Miss Prim has ac­
cepted a position in the Eugene school
for the ensuing year.
Donald Cameron who has been at­
tending school in Oakland Cal. the
past year, returned home Tuesday
evening. He was accompanied home
by his niece Dorothy Lang.
A party of twelve or fourteen persons,
representing the Selig Polyscope pas­
sed through town Thursday morning on
the way to the Sterling mines where
they will pose for views to be used in
making moving picture films.
The ball game Sunday was a very
fair exhibition of ball playing, many
excellent plays were made by members
of each team while the errors wore
not so many as usual. The score was:

Mr. Hogsett, of the new Abstract
company has a force of four persons
working on the county records, cover­
ing on an average about seven hundred
descriptions per day. At this rate,
they will be ready for business in a
short time.
Miss Minnie Jackson of Medford has
been secured by the committee to read
the Declaration of Independence on
July 4th. Miss Jackson is the daughter
of ex-sheriff D. H. Jackson, and is
said to be gifted with rare elecutionary
powers.
An informal dinner was given at the
residence of Mrs M. M. Taylor to a
few of the gentlemen friends of Hon.
Theo. Cameron Tuesday evening. As
the invitations were confined to boys
of about the same age as Mr. Cameron
(81), we were considered “tov young”,
to be out late in the evening, so are
unable to give a complete description
of the affair, but it is safe to say that
the "boys” enjoyed themselves.
Those present were H. K. Hanna, J.
R. Neil, David Linn, O. Harbaugh,
and T. Cameron.
Medford’s policemen are to be uni­
formed.
Roy Ulrich was a visitor at Medford
Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Cantrail visited
friends in Ashland Thursday
A number of Medford promoters are
in Portland this week, soliciting sub­
scriptions to the fund for building the
highway to Crater Lake.
SIMr. Marvin, a mining engineer of
Gold Hill was in town Thursday, look­
ing up the title to certain mining
claims and water rights.
F. W. Mears, Esq. of Medford was
in town Wednesday on business in
connection with several cases which he
is conducting in the circuit court.
The friends of Mr. Mears have been
insisting that he be a candidate for
nomination on the Redublican ticket
for Representative, and it is stated
that he has consented. We predict
his nomination and election.
A very pleasant surprise was sprung
on Rev. C. II. Johnston Tuesday even­
ing, when about seventy-five members
of his congregation, and friends, in­
vaded the M. E. parsonage and for a
few hours held the reverend gontle-
man and family in durance. The oc­
casion was the forty-fourth anniversary
of Mr. Johnston’s birth, the evening was
spent very pleasantly in social converse,
games, and music, both vocal and
instrumental.
