The primary law may be defective in some particulars, and if so, it should and doubtless will, be amended, but even with these defects it is a great step in advance of the old “ring rule,” or convention system— a sort of declaration of independence by the voters of Oregon. The primary has come to stay and every effort to substitute convention rule or assembly plan therefor will meet with the opposition of the intelligent voters. The county court has decided to macadamize that part of the main county road lying between the city limits of this city and Medford. The road will be graded and a foundation of broken rock placed thereon which in turn will be covered with crushed rock broken finely and rolled down with a heavy roller, thus forming a hard, smooth surface. We did not learn whether the plans include a coating of asphaltum or other cement, but hope that they do. It will now be up to our city council to repair that portion of the road lying within the city limits, it is stated that the matter lias been taken up and that work will be begun at an early date. The county board are to be commended for their ac tion in this matter and the road when completed will be u. ?d and appreciated by hundreds of people.
