The assayer’s record show that the ore contained 53% iron and on Monday a test was made at the mine when two samples of ore was melted. Each sample produced a good showing of iron. The ledge is several hundred feet wide and about two miles long, with a good smelter site and plenty of timber on the ground. Requests for samples of ore are com ing in from all parts of the state, and Mr. Norling said (hat he could furnish two car loads of ore to responsible parties for test purposes. Jacksonville can not ask for this trade under the pre sent conditions. If this company jRtsrts operations they will build a road through Jacksonville to connect with the S. P. and all business will be done elsewhere. The business is now freighted through this city. What in ducement is there for this company to buy in this city? They can go to Med ford where they see paved streets, good sidewalks and an air of progress. This will win trade every time. Goods can be had in this city just as cheaply and in many cases cheaper. The trend of business will go where invited. We are not inviting business to Jackson ville but driving it away. There is The moving picture show at the U. I one remedy—a progresaive council. The Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition has appropriated $103,030 for premiums in tho live stock show to be held in connection with the 1309 exposition. The mining exhibit at the Alaska- Yukon-Pacific exposition in 1909 will be the most complete mineral display ever shown at a worlds fair. In the gold exhibits are three of the largest nuggets ever found in Alaska. They were taken from the famous Pioneer mine at Nome and the total value of the three is slightly in excess of $7,000. It is proposed to have the largest of these three nuggets arrang ed so that visitors may pick it up and the big yellow lump will pass through thousands of hands during the exposi tion. The Alaska fair commission has al ready secured the dust, nuggets and gold bricks for the display d inti wlia be arranged in the gold pavilion of the Alaska building several days in advan ce of the opening of the exposition on June 1. A portion of the gold is now in safety deposit vaults in Seattle. Every claim and prospect in the four divisions of Alaska contributed not less than an ounce of gold to the dis play and the Seward peninsula, Tan ana River, Gopper River and South eastern Alaska districts are all repres ented. In addition to the gold many of the mine owners of the Home and Fairbanks camps will also have sam ples of pay dirt, gravel bed rock and black sand. The exhibit will be in ex cess of two tons of pure gold, just as it was washed from the ground in the north. Indebtedness of town Feb. 1, $701.90 1909.................................
