The legislature has adjourned and all the bills introduced have now been finally disposed of. lliere were over 700 billa introduced and of these, 83 local and 82 general pawned and are now laws. The passing of the local bills was dune by log rolling tactics and placed the authors of the bills under obliga tions to the other members and made it possible to railroad Ihe slate fair appro priation through, both of the senators of this county voting for it. The bill creating a hoard of county sommiaaioii- ers for this county was never printed, hut pushed through under a suspension of the rules. Among oilier things this hill creates another ollico for a fanner and insures a place as propate judge for an attorney, later it will become neces sary to have a county attorney or pay out large fees for legal advice. The darner of this bill also provided for the Enterprise to receiver all of the printing controlled by the county officials, but the commissioners are not all worship' ers at the Enterprise shrine and the pro vision failed. The Daly text book bill, which takes the school books out of the control of the American Book Company and insures cheaper books for our boys and girls was passed, although both of our senators voted against it. There was, it is said more money used to kill this bill than any other introduced. The bill renuiring th registration of voters saddles a large expense on the taxpayers and is of no practical benefit. It has been tried in other states and dis carded. How many precincts are t here In this county where every voter is nut known personally by the judges or clerks of election? In large cities it is of no more benefit it simply compels ma' chine politicians to "p.id" the registra tion books before running in the illegal voters. The bill providing for wider tires on road 1,( lib'w narrow fim rYiinVgrive'l Ihe citizens of that government in the Hazclton riots. The idea is advanced that there it no basis for the claims. Under the law damages could not be allowed American citizens killed under such circumstances. Men who engage in riots must take the consequences. Of course the occupation of the Philippines requires the outlay of a considerable sum of money, but the revenues derived from the islands will ha oil. ..at tf t.nfr n.tlta a..nt..l. The needless clamor about the expense might well be abandoned, together with the rest of the opposi tion to our great national policy of progress. The scandals and dangerous situations developed in senatorial elections in the past month are almost sufficient to in fluence men to the opinion that the election ot United States senators by popular vute would be a better thing. Popular crazes surely cannot be a worse thing than political corruption in high places. The profession of bull fighter or toreador in Spam will soon be as free from danger as prize fighting in Amer ica . One toreador lust season took pilrt in 6'i fights, killed 133 bulls and he only sustained n bruise on the foot and a wound in the leg. He cleared $60,000 in the season. 1 L Vfc road The bill providing for the election nf road supervisors will be an improve ment if it is so arranged as to not mix P with the election of other miu.iJ olticialH. Taken as a whole the slate is not bene- mtetl through the measures passed, the kuou ueing more than olldet by the bad laws. The taxpayers will he expected to inarch up to the primaiies and be votsd like sheep at the next election mey liavs been in the psst, but the tune is not fur distant when the inde pendent voters will be of snlllcieiit strength to set down on machine poli- ucs as munipiiiateil in this county. The admiration of Dewev weirs well. He does not detract from bis glory by talking like Miles or kissing like Hobson. The senate lias passed the bill croaling the ollice ol admiral of the navy, and it is understood that the president will nominate Rear Admiral Dewey for the place. The man who breaks in the wild, vicious bronchos on the west ern plains must have superb physical en durance, nerves oi steel, unconquerable 'vim, determination ' and oersistencv. The city or town bred man who has all his life bumped his back over a dtnk, living an unhealthy, sedentary life and failed to take any care of his health, could not stay on the back of one of these vicious brutes for more than three jumps. It takes a whole man to conquer a vicious animal. People may talk about intellectual superiority and refinement and good breed ing, but every man takes off his hat to physical strength and endurance. While the man who leads a sedentary life cannot hope, in this respect, to rival these sturdy men ot the plains, they can be sound, vig orous, healthy men if they will. It is a matter of care of health while one has it, and the proper measures to restore it when it is lost. Most diseases begin with some trouble of the digestive organs or of the liver. Troubles of this nature starve the body, because they prevent it from receiv ing its proper supply of nourishment. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery gives a man an appetite like a cow-boy's and the digestion of an ostrich. Its great work is upon the stomach, large intestines and liver. These are the organs that nourish a man's body. This medicine makes them strong, vigorous and healthy. It fills the blood with the nourishment that builds new, solid and healthy flesh, muscle and nerves. " I am now enjoying? magnificent health. aftrr having Huffered for yean with chronic catarrh." writei Ramon Sanchez, Kq.. of Penasco. Taos Co., New Mexico. " Hy the use of your ' Golden Medical Discovery' I have recovered my health, and am now, physically a sound man, attending to my business and enjoying life." tensively in produce, shipping many car loads of potatoes, apples, prunes, onions and grain.
