sents one of tbe most interesting fea
tures of tbe gathering. He Is an
avowed pacifist; Wilson is In favor of
preparedness. - Will the peerless lead
er support t lie administration or not?
These are questions that only actions
can answer.
There is uo doubt that Bryan has
tremendous Influence In the Democrat-li-
party. He la accredited with being
responsible for Wilson's nomination at
Bultluiore. In this connection It la lu
teresthig to remember how Bryan ob
tained mii'b Influence lu the pnrty.

trol. Led by Senator Stone of Mis
souri, they were more thau twice as
strong as tbe gold Ieiuocrats under
the leadership of n,v!d B. Hill.
But in all the pages and pages of dis
patches which poured into the news
paper offices before the convention, as
sembled there was in the gossip about
candidates no mention of tu name of
Bryan. He was unknow n.
