Editorial It was the intention of The Pill Box to place a member of its editorial staft upon the primary ballot ior some office but at the last moment, power ful influences representing- both the Democratic and Republican parties asked for just one more chance and The Pill Box withdrew its candidate before he was entered. Representa- tives ot these poweriul lnliuences made a most solemn vow that their candidates if elected would conduct themselves and their offices in such a manner as to bring" peace, happiness and prosperity to everv inhabitant Peace, by requiring everv jackass, re- gardless of the number of limbs he may have, to be muffled; Happiness bv requiring that the expenses ol al .. . ... emales be paid out ot the public reasurv; Prosperity by making a dime go just as far as a silver dollar in purchisincf power. Ihe Pill Box, A. v.- after the above explanation, does not deem it necessary to publish the protocol in full except the concluding paragraph which reads: To all of which aforesaid, we pledge cair sacred hearts to uphold and maintain the same from Alpha to Omega and that all parts of the constitution of the United States, the constitution of the atate of Oregon, the Apostle's Creed or Robert's Rules of Order in contliction thereof are hereby appealed. C Different Kinds of Fun The young man from the city and the young man from the country were courting the same girl. 1 he)-were sitting in the parlor with. the object of their affections. Said the young man from the city: "We have certainly been having some run tne last few days. Thursdsv, we autoed to the country club and golfed until (lark, then trolleyed back to town and danced until morning." The country boy riot to be worsted followed with: "We have hail pretty good tlrnea here, too. One day we buggied out to Uncle Ned and went to the back lot where we baseballed ell afternoon. In the evening we sneaked op to the attic nd pokered until morning." The girl's father, a hard working old farmer, who was vainly trying to sleep in an adjoining bedroom, heard the remarks and butted in with: "I was having some fun nbout this time myself. I muled to the held and gee-hawed until sundown. Then 1 suppered ui til dark and piped until nine. Then I bedsteaded until the clock rived, theo break fasted until it was time to go muling sgsin." Independence Business Firms Well Worthy of Patronage HALIADAY'S MACHINE SHOP In Fitchard's Garage. Society Section The joys of Easter are somewhat saddened by the fact that some women will not have new hats and the So ciety Editor of The Pill Box always has a good cry about it every Haster afternoon. But never mind, unfortu nate sisters, read this story: Once upon a time there was a bt-autiful lnIy who was married U a doctor whose patients always died and he never received anything fur helping people into the next world so she never had a new r.snter hat. SI.e finally died of a broken heart aad was laid to rest in the villnie cemetery which was own ed, mnintslned and kent green by the Ladies Ome tery Association whose membership conaiwted of wotsrn who could sfford to buy KhnUt hate every year. After the beautiful lady hud been dead for a few months, a little dfiidehoe commenced to grew upon her grave and had many descendants and soon the whole cemetery wsn covered with them. The won-ien v. so belonged to the amtociation wer rom peiled to dig all the dandelions out rf that cemetery and it required seven months of awful hard work to do it. So the beautiful lady, who died of a broken heart, was sleeping peacefully while the others work ed until they wishe-i they were dead. If one single sad heart is gladdened by this story, the author, the writer, will feel that the great mental effort required to produce it was no work at all.
