The debt of the national govern
ment is a greater financial weight
upon the people of each state, except
Arizona and Massachusetts, than the
obligations of the state In which they
live, according to statistics issued by
the census bureau.

1913, the per csiuita debt for the 48
states amounted to 13.57, while that
of the national government was
$10.09. The total debt of the state
governments on Unit date was $422,
