Thy W. C. T, V. met on Monday at
the home of the President Mrs. Morgan,
where nine members A-ere present nt
roll call and all seemed ready for work

over Mrs. Morgan served an excellent
lunch which was much enjoyed by all.
The next meeting will t held on Mon
day at the home of Serepta Richardson
The Women Journal was ordered for
the use of the union. The plan for a
reading circla was talked of that mem
bers might pot themselves on the im
ixirtant matters coming to u. A pe
tition was signed by the county W. C.
T. U. at it meeting in Dallas asking
Governor West to accept the office of
Governor again and local worker in
Polk county are doing the same. "Al!
going West." I
Refreshment eem to be getting very
popular and even the W. C. T. U. ladies
are nerving lunche at their meetings.
Last week our meeting with Mrs. Hu'l
and Miss Richardson was profitable and
well attended. Mrs. ritagerald was
with us, a former worker in Iow.
A fine dinner was served. Mrs. Cut
berth requested us to drop her name
from our roll as her church work was
all she had time for now and waa ro
longer a resident of our city and with
other reasons she was compelled to with
draw from our circle.

President Alice Stone Blackwell of
New England, woman suffrage asso
ciation of Dorchester, Mas., who ip

Journal of Boston, has written to Dr.
Calvin S. Whit" asking his opinion of
the effects of suffrage on the health of
women. Her letter is a follows: In a
recent article against equal utfrag
William Sedgewick predict that it
must have a harmful e-ct on the
health of mother and consequently to
their children. For year the anti
lufTragetes have been prophesying that
political excitement would cause rer
toub disease and insanity among wom
en if they were allowed to vote. She
aiks: Do you find that equal suffrage
does produce these disasters or any j
other as unsexlng women, breaking up
the home, destroying chivalry. A

ciated . Vr White replied that no such
lire results had followed in Oregon and
could see no reason for ouch effects pre
dicted by Professor Sedgwick.
