AIRLIE NEVVSJTEMS INTEREST Live Correspondent Gives Lively News of this Live Community and a Few Personal Paragraphs Mrs. D A. Madison of Sa lem and her sister. Mrs. Johnie Briruley ol Portland were passengers through thia place on their way to LewiB ville, where they will visit their parents, Bill Lewis and w'fe. Clarence Irwin of Indepen dence was in our town the middle of last week. A. R. Lewis made a trip to Toledo last week. Cobb, Belcher and Donald arrived in Airlie on Thursday mornings train and taking a rig went all over the line ti Hoskins. Fred Ritner was in town from I'eedee last Thursday. Uncle Lou Ritner was a passenger on the tra'n Thurs day for Kelso, Washington. Ihree loads of merchandise arrived to our town on last Thursday nights freight. I guens that is going some for this place. Fred Johnson hauled out 7 rolls of Page fencing Fri day for bis plaoe near Peedee. Uncle Tom Williams from Independence was with m a few days last week. Chas. and Henry Nindle made trip to Monmouth last Thursday. Bill Wood is just putting the finishing touohes on Fred Steele's bungalow. Mr. Leggett reports t'nat hi- boh who is in the Dallas hospital is doing very nicely. Everyone around here are taking advautage of this fine weather. Wiliie Williams was plow ing his hops during the nice weather bo he wouldn't have so much to do in the spring. Johnia Ashban of Dallas was in our town Thursday. George Conn has been hav ing a nice time for the last 3 or 4 days nurbing an aching tooth. We have the finest looking lot of girls here who would willingly change their names if they could find one that would suit. Frank Story was in town Thursday talking with his boy friends. Roland Maxfield of Kings Valley cams in to Dr. Butler with a bad cut on his right thumb but will bo alright in a few days. Mrs. 11. V. Link and Miss Nellie Link were in town Thursday visiting Mr. Lacey. Doctor Hwittand Vernon Brown of Independence were through our town Thursday night going to Hoskins where Dr. Hewitt was making a call. Fred Steal and Bub Staats made a business trip to In-, dependence Friday. J. O. Staats and wife of our city were passengers on Fri days mornings train to visit their daughter at Engeno. John Roberts and would-be councilman Endicott was in Airlie Friday sampling hops at the warehouse. John Cox was in town on business Friday. Mr. Calkins, our road su pervisor brought in a fiat bunch of chickens whioh lie Fold to Mr. Conn. . There is a kitchen mystery who made the cobbler, Lige says I didn't, you did. Dudle is clerk now for Happy Cooper He says he has a snap but it is on the harness. Walt says when I get mv bachelor quartei s started then we can have some chicken feeds. See? I. M. Simpson was in town Friday. Claud Lewis of Lewisville was a passenger Friday night for Sale in. Geo. Boothby of Monmouth cama in on Friday mornings traio to look at a bunch of sheep. Saai Gross was in town last Friday. Rev. Cook was in town Saturday. Laurence Heckercf Albany was through our town Satur day on his way Lewisville. Th dance was well attend ed last Friday but who has seen L. C. since the big dance. Clyde Williams and amily of Independence spent Sun day with his father here. The boxing contest was al right but the attendance wa reported small. Mrs. Jones of near her toon her daughter, Mrs. Hubbard to Falls City 'he last of the week. A. R. Bevens wa3 in town last week doing some trading. Z. A. French left Monday for the state of Washington where he will be gone a few days. Our merchants, Geo. Conn and C V. Johnson and their wives were passengeis on Moi.day evenings train for Portland. While there they will attend the ball game be tween the Giants and White Sox. Hon. Ira PoW' U of Mon mouth attended the sale hi Mr. Medford's on Tuesday. J. M. Morgan of ludepend ence who is hewing ties on Fred Johnson's place spent Sunday with his family re turning Tuesday morning. A larte crowd of young folks went out Monday night to charivari Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown. All report a good time with musio and dancing. Walt and Doc are fixing up bachelors quarters Walt says Doc it looks like we ought to be able toget a cool-. Doc says what is the matter Walt are we too homely? It is a cinch if it was leap year we would stand a chance wouldn't we Doc? Well Walt we should worry. Herb says if any of you boys are bronco twistera it is your chance now after his outlaw fell on his leg but no bones were broken. The show will open Wednesday by trying a new tun'. Fred says we will hitch him up and let him buck, something doing all the time. Choices are good avouud our town as we have only 28 bachelors here of marriage able age and some older. They will run from 21 years to G5 ytar. I guesa that is going 6ome. They say that Mc sent to Sears cfc Roebuck for an old maid but she has not arrived yet by parcels post. He says that is a big store and he ought to gat a bargain. He ought to look around some as he might find one closer to home. Don't you think so Lige. Wade sayt that he can get home now after dark with his new flash light. It's a dandy. C. E. Staats was out shoot ing trouble on the Home Phone line Monday but it is in bad condition yet. There must be some poles down. W E.
