The volcano Lanin, on the A rgen tine frontier, is reported to be in a sta te of eruption. The volcano is ap proxim ately 9000 feet high. The A sam a Yama volcano, about 90 miles northw est of Tokio, has been in eruption for several days. The ashes are falling over a wide area. S E N A T E V O T E S F A R M E R AID Revival of W ar Finance Corporation D irected—Bill Goes to House. W ashington, D. C.—The senate late Monday adopted the agriculture com m ittee resolution directing the revival of the w ar finance corporations as a m easure of affording relief to farm' ers. The second section of the resolution which as introduced would have di rected the extension of liberal credits to farm ers by the federal reserve sys tern was am ended to m ake th e desir ability of such a course only an ex pression of opinion of the congress. The am endm ent m aking th e change of the section of the resolution re la t ing to the federal reserve system was proposed by S enator N orris, repub lican, N ebraska, and was accepted by a vote of 47 to 16. A nother change made In the reso lution on suggestion of S enator Smith, dem ocrat, Georgia, broadened th e du ties of the finance corporation to In clude the financing of exportations of products other than those produced on th e farm. An am endm ent by Sen ato r H arris, dem ocrat, Georgia, to make the rate of discount on loans to farm ers 5 per cent was rejected. A su b stitu te for the resolution, pre sented by S enator Spencer, republican, Missouri, m et a sim ilar result. F ur th er action on the bill was w ithout a record vote. The m easure now goes to the house, w here a num ber of sim ilar farm er relief m easures are pend ing.
