Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Brevman, of Sa lem, left last Monday fora tour through out Europe. They will return next fall. The Tillamook Luml>ering Co. is op erating its water pipe factory night as well as day, for the purpose of filling a large order received from Washington. It is stated on good authority that Mayor Pennoyer, of Portland, will un doubtedly be the democratic nominee for Governor of Oregon at the next elec tion, one year hence. The girls of the Willamette university and the Harrison institute played a game of basket ball in Salem last Saturday afternoon. The score was 2 to 0, in favor of the Indian girls of the institue. A small, brown-colored bird, about the size of the Oregon snowbird, is cre ating havoc among the cherry blossoms of Polk county. The bird cuts the stem off" close to the bud, and simply drops the bud to the ground. Street Car Accident in Portland. A terrible street car accident occurred in Portland yesterday morning. Car No. 52, of the City and Suburban elec tric line, left the rails on East Morrison street, a few’ feet east of the corner of East Eighth street, and plowing its way across the bridge, dropped thirty feet in to mud and w’ater below. Three persons were killed and fifteen injured. Populists Had a Big Time. Proceedings of the recent county pop ulist convention are reported as follows: The populist county central committee met in Medford Friday and perfected or ganization of the party in this county.
