—Max Pracht left Sunday for Chicago
to be gone until fall.
—Chas. Bolton went to Merlin last
Monday to work on the freight.
—F. D. Robbing, of the firm of Frey <fc
Robbins, went down to Phoenix last
Saturday.
—O. B. Allen, of the Yreka Union,
came over Sunclay to visit his family
here, returning yesterday.
—G. W. Smith returned Friday from
his trip to Roseburg, Drain, Elkton and
other points down the valley.
—L. F. Willitts and J. R. Norris went
to Albany Monday to attend the Repub­
lican district convention yesterday.
—E. V. mills went to San Francisco
Saturday ta submit to the amputation of
his injured leg. The operation was
performed Sunday morning at eleven
o’clock, and the patient is getting along
nicely.
H. M. Hicks came over Saturday from
the “Hicks” mine on the Cottonwood.
He brought over $100 in gold nuggets
ranging in value from $5 to $10 each.
The old channel has been found and it
is expected that much more of the glit­
tering stuff will reward the efforts of the
miners. Four men are now at work.
Mrs. Hicks accompanied her husband
on his return to the mine yesterday.

Edward R. Owens is no better and no
hopes of his recovery.
A. S. Jacobs made a business trip to
Jacksonville Monday.
George Brown, a merchant of Eagle
Point, was in town last week.
Mrs. Wm. Holmes, who has been quite
ill, is now able to be out again.
Wm. Gee, who came here from Sam’s
Valley to be treated for kidney trouble,
is thought to be no better.
Our town seems to lie quite deserted
of young people, especially young ladies,
six of them leaving Sunday to take up
their charges on the day following in
their respective places of teaching.
Miss Cora Brown, of Eagle Point, who
has been visiting relatives and friends
in Portland for some time and is now at
Mount Talior, will soon arrive home, ac­
companied by her aunt, Mrs. Devins, of
that place.
Mrs. Nora Norman, of Portland, wife
of Al. Norman, a brakeman who used to
work on this division but now’ running
between Roseburg and Portland, is visit­
ing her sisters Misses Clara and Cassia
Perry, of this place; also their brother.
