WILL EXPERIMENT WITH ASP ABACUS IN KLAMATH KLAMATH FALLS, Or., Pee. 23. It is the opinion uf persons familiar with the production cf asparagus that itcan lie grown on an extensive scale in the Klamath country, and Charles H. Pierce of Ashland, Or., has proposed to the people of this section that they ex periment with the product the coming summer if they meet with success he and others will at once establish a can nery. Several of tho land owners in the vi oinity of this city will experiment with asparagus next spring, and if the par ties are as successful on a large scale rb some of the truck farmers have been, Pierce and his associates will be called upon to erect the cannery at the close of the Reason. WATER TAX MAT BEAT CRATER LAKE ROAD TAX KLAMATH FALLS, Or., Dec. 23. The petitions asking the county court to make a special levy to raise $f50 000 for the construction of the Crater fake road are being largely signed in all parts of the county, but it is evident that the strongest support the propo sition has comes from Klamath Falls and Merrill, -and the farmers residing iu the vicinity of these places. In the eastern part of the county, especially at Bonanza, there is considerable opposi tion, but still several of the heaviest taxpayers of that locality have signed the petition. . , .. , More of the fanners would sign it, but they are not positive that they can stand an additional tax if they are com pelled to pay the high government wa ter tax. LUMBER PRESIDENT PREDICTS CHEAPER LUMBER NEXT TEAR CHICAGO, Dee. 23. Edward Hain lately elected president of the Virginia and Rainy Lumber company, the larg at combine in the wrM of its kind, predicts cheaper lumber asd a nw era in its production as a result of the new organization. "It is our intentiftn to cheapen the cost of manufacture and. of course, to cheapen the cost to consumers propor tionately." snys Trains. "We will not do this, however, at the expense of the country by reckless or wasteful lumber ing methods. "We will work in harmony with the forest departments nf the Vnit"d States and Canada, ond we hop to make money out of the things that they will ask up to do. TYr instance, we will utilize all the tin -h t on the ground we cut over. We w ll not sim ply pick out the- choice trees, leaving dead wood and brush to feed forest fires. We will clear the land bo that instead of being a worthless Wilderness after it is cut over, it will bo valuable for farming purposes. "We are also hoping that a further reduction may be made in the cost of lumber to American consumers by the taking off of the tariff. The greater part of our land is in Canada and this would enable ub to bring the Canadian lumber into the United States, a thing that the tnriff practically prohibits now. ' WARK WKAXEWg HIE KIDNBT6. My kidneys were disordered and I had to arise many times during the night to pass the se cretions. I was subject to hgeadaches and waa very dizzy, especially when I stooped. I did not got relief and be came discouraged. Doan's Kidney Pills finally came to my attention, and I procured a box at Haskins' drug store.
