Elsewhere in this issue is published the Southern Pa cific estimate of fruit plauting and harvest in Oregon. According to these figures, the Roinie River vallev aKut in a normal year 500 care of fruit, will ship within five years at least 5000 cars, over twice the present output of the entire state. In ten years, shipments from Medford district will total 10,000 cars, based onlv upon ing planted. The planted Medford now comprises one area of Oregon, and indications are that, in spite of plant ing in Willamette and Umpqua and other valleys, the area of orchards planted annually here will more than offset those in other sections maintaining the present ratio and making the Rogue River valley the greatest fruit section in the state. North Yakima, Wash., lias chards and 30,000 acres of Wenatchee has 6000 acres of 000 acres of young trees. Hood River has 9000 acres of bearing orchards, and 12,000 acres of young orchards. North Yakima has much available fruit land not plant ed, several thousand acres. acres available. Hood River not planted. The Rogue River valley has several thou sand acres, so that it is a race and the Rogue River valley as the largest fruit section in area. On one point, however, there is no race, and that is the quality of the fruit produced by the tw sections. Rogue River Newtowns and Spitzcnburgs command higher prices and are of finer quality than those from either Wenatchee or Yakima, while for quantity aud quality of pears, the Rogue River valley beats all binod. In value of product, acre for acre, the Medford district holds its own with any orchard region on earth and surpasses most of them. Wednesday there were on the special Pullman attached for the benefit of Rogu River valley traffic. Of these, 21 left the car at Medford The Southern Pacific conductors say that this is no un usual ease and that moro Medford than at all other stations in Oregon south of Port land combined which shows The move to start a business men's social club in Med ford is a commendable one though a somewhat ambitious one for a city as small as this one. Clubs are expensive luxuries, but add greatly to eity. FULTON OPPOSES THB APOINTMBNT OF TOITNQ WASHINGTON, IVe. 1(1. If tho ap- IHiinimrni or John r. Professor George Foster of the University of Chicago divinity school, whoso higher criticisms of the Itilile havo agitata orthodot Christianity, told the budding clerymen of the school today that religion was not of divine or miraculous origin. "It is not a religion from a god," said ho, "but an achievement of man, who cre ated hia own gods, in ancient times, in order that he might havo them to help him in his defenselcssness and igno ranee. To aid him In conquering his foes and to ilisol tho darkneaa of his future and the fear of death. " DID DAOO PRINCE WANT MORE THAN LLKINS PUT UP? WASHINGTON, Doc. 10. There a peraistent story current that financial disagreements stand in tho way of the Abrozzi-F.lkiiis ninrrlngo. It la under stood here that tho eiiectnti(ina of the Italian relatives of Ahrnzzi were some taing enormous. A representative of the Italian government made a trip iw me r.mine and Pans properties in est irginia nnd innde a report of some kind to the king of Italy. The understanding (hero waa that Senator Klkina and his wealthy father in law owned an estate which was as large as some Kingdoms nnd could nfford to pay any amount into the royal treasury as dower. It is intimated that tho minor relatives expected that this sum would he snfficient to give all comfortable for tunes. When it was learned on this sido that the money was not all to go to the bridal pair the "no" became emphatic It is understood here that Senator El Kins early decided that he would not speak until he could do so in a eonclu sive way, and when he did speak, he felt that the matter was ended. TEDDY WANTS OUN THAT WILL MAKE A BANO WASHINGTON, Dec. 10. President Roosevelt will note use a noiseless gun in Africa. He says it is no fun to shoot wun a gun witl out n bang. He is in favor of a Krag. Experienced African shooters say that a steel nosed bullet will not stop a big animal. What needed is a soft nosed bullet, which will spread and stop a charging animal. The president favors the army rifle and the army bullet, but those who understand big game shooting say that he will come around to the big bullet. Anyway, there is nothing doing for in noiseless rifle. " Johnson's Beat Comb True. Flour, 1.3(1. Mo MEDFOBD JDAILY.TRIBPNg, time to buy her future home than right now.
