Frank B. Tichenor, well known in
this Hectn, has been promoted from
the position of district organizer of the
Woodmen of the World for eastern
Washington to that of general organizer
for Oregon, Washington and Idaho. His
headquarters will be in Portland. The
new position was recently created.
Heretofore there have been five or six
district organizers. .Now then- will be
but two general organi.ers, covering the
fue states. Mr. Tichenor held his for
mer position for years, with tieadipiar
ters at Spokane, Wash. Just before he
left tint city to conn to Portland he
was presented wit h a loving cu by

Webb Ituke. divorced wife of Brodie
L. Duke, millionaire tobacco merchant,
was tried today on a charge of having
defrauded tie- Great Northern hotel by
means uf an alleged wurthltsa check.
The euse was given to the jury this
evening, Judge Kerstea of the criminal
court instructing the jurors to bring
in a sealed verdict tomorrow morning.
The defendant was confident of ac
quittal when she left the courtroom.
The defense asserted that Mrs. Webb
signed the $"i0 check which caused her
trouble under a misapprehension. She
had money in one bank, it was said,
but inadvetileiitly signed a check on an
i list it ut ion from which her funds had
been withdraw n. The wit neses for
t he hotel company admitted t hat the
check had since In en redee I and the
account settled.
.Mrs. Helen M. liepley, formerly com
panion to Mrs. Webb, testified that
Mrs. Webb whs suffering from pleur
isy on the day she signed the check, and
was under the influence of stimulants
and nnraeotics. This was followed by
the testimony of Dr. James Park, who
said that he had atended Mrs. Webb
and treated her for pulmonary con
gestiun.

to ocean and back. Kugene V. Debs

towns and eoities en 'route. The Debs
train will arrive in Medford Sunday,
September Pt. from the south. Debs
will speak from a platform ear in the
railroad yards. A brass band will also
accompany the train. The train is paid
