THE MEDFORD DAILY TRIBUNE, MED FORI). OR.. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20. W08. NOW OR NEVER, TO WIN THE AUTOMOBILE Contest Doings the Main TopiG of Conversation on the Streets of Medford-Who Will Win the Reo? Is the Question Asked on all Sides. With tin- contest but two more days to run, excitement is at fever heat, and will be more so before the end. The candidates have but two more days iu which to secure votes and sub scriptions enough to put them amoug the winners at the end, and they are certainly making hay while the suu shines. If there is a man or woman in the vicinity of Medfurd, or within a radius been approached by some one of the contestants and solicited for a subscrip tion for all the way from a month to! one and two years, the contest man agement would like to hear of it. I And as a general thing these people j uo.u ii-oju.i.iiiu .VI,, gl-UCIOUSl , nun the majority of the candidates have very nice scores. The standings of the candidates as they appear iu this evening's Tribune will be the same iu the issues of Friday and Saturday. There will be no more votes counted until the judges open the ballot boxes for the final count. Important Notice to Candidates. The last official standings of the can didates appear in this issue, and from now until the close of the contest the standings of the contestants will be the same in the Issues of Friday and Sat urday. There will be no votes counted after Wednesday evening until the close of the contest, when teh judges to be selected this week will make the final count. On Wednesday night the ballot box was opened for the last time and when locked again the keys were turned over to one of the judges, who will keep it in his possession until the box is opened for the last count. Pay particular attention to this and do not forget that the position you wlli hold in the paper this evening will be the same you wi lhlave in the papers of Friday and Saturday. To insure a fair and impartial deal to every candidate, not that full confi dence has not been placed in the man agement of the contest, but because of policy, it has been decided to have two judges and tabulators to preside over the- final counting, and by this method the contestants can feel assured that eacr and every ballot will be counted as cast. The candidates and their friends can turn iu votes and subscriptions at the Tribune office until 1(1 p. m. Satur day; at that hour, or at such time as the subscriptions are all made out, the ballot boxes will be turned over to the judges, who will ntke charge of the final count. Keep Busy For the Inst few days, as you have since the contest opened, and there will not be much danger but that you will be among the winners at the last count. The Best Time To secure subscriptions is right now, the last, couple of days of the contest. F.s pecially is this true of those of the candidates who have worked hard since the contest opened. Those of the la dies iu this contest who have been working from morning till night to secure votes and subscriptions are the ones who will now get thousands of votes and more support and assistance than those of the candidates who did not make so much of an effort the first few weeks of the contest. People take note of those who are working and those who are not doing so much, and it is the former who will receive the support when support is needed, and it is now that that assist ance is needed as it never has been be fore. Reserve Votes Are being held by the most of the can didates and they are keeping the size of these reserves a secret, and when the final count is known there nre sur prises in store. You Do Not Know The extent of the other candidates' re serve and you may be tinder the im pression that you have enough votes to win in a walk, but take time by the forelock and augment that reserve fund. Never get the idea in your head that you have enough votes to win; and again it is a good deal better to win by a majority of 50,000 votes than to lose by ten votes. Paper Coupons Will not be accepted again, nnd it will be useless for the candidates to bring any moro to the office. Put Your Certificates In the ballot boxes at the Tribune of fice between now and Saturday night, so that there will be no danger of them being out at the final count. An Error Was made in the cut published in th? issue of yesterday. It had been in tended to run tho cit of Miss A mm Boeson, District No. 5, nnd t lie contrast article rend that wny, but through an error the picture of Mian Kffie (.rimes of District Xo. 4 was run instead. In th.s evening's issue th paere In this evening's issue there appears the picture of Miss Beeson. Important! All votes that have already been is sued must be in the ballot box by 10 o'clock Saturday night; although if a contestant is in the office with her sub scriptions beforo 10 o'clock and she cannot be waited upon at that time, she will be allowed votes on her subscrip tions, these votes to be cast as soon as issued; for instance,, if a contestant is in the office turning in subscriptions and receiving votes, although she is not finished turning in subscriptions by 10 o'clock, time will bo allowed her in which to finish; just so long as a con testant is in the office by 10 o'clock, votes will be issued on all subscriptions turned in by her, but it would be wise not to wait until the last moment. Subscriptions may be paid in to tho Tribune office until 10 o'clock Saturday night. Make the last couple of days count, contestants, and there will not be much fear of the results. Keep continually after votes uud subscriptions until tho last moment, and never say die until the ballot box is closed for tho lust time. DISTRICT NO. 1.
