Shadduck of Portland are In Medford paying a visit to Mrs. Shadduck's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Meeker. Mr. and Mrs. J. Dennis, who have been In the city for several days vis iting Mr. Dennis' sister, Mrs. 8. V. Anderson, left Sunday for Marsh field, Or. Mrs. A. T. Bowman, who has been visiting her oarenta. Mr. and Mrs M. U Mais., for a few days, left yesterday for her home at White Salmon, Wash. Joe Harrell, who came her sev eral .months ago from Texas, return ed there yesterday. His brother, W. A. Harrell, and family will purchase property and remain here. Dr. R. O. Gale of North Bend, Or., arrived in Medford yesterday and will spend the holidays with Judge and Mrs. W. M. Colvtg. Mrs. Gale has been visiting here for several weeks. M. F. McCown went to Glendale Sunday for a few days' stay. Miss Alice Streets is home from school and will spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Streets. Anderson Toft report that they have sold seven lots In their recently platted addition to Medford. On one of these a residence is now be'.ng erected and on two others dwellings will soon be commenced. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Campbell of Jamestown, N. D., came In yesterday and will remain during tha wlntor. Mr. Campbell Is a brother of our good townsman, W. M. Campbell, of the firm of W. T. York ft Co. The company which purchased Dr. Picket's "401" orchard a tew weeks ago have since then bought the Ev ans tract of 160 acres, lying Just south of "401," and they are now having 100 acres of the land set to fruit. Miss May Phipps will leave today for San Diego, Cal., at which place her parents and brother are .low visiting. Miss Phipps will remain during the school vacation of two weeks and may decide to remain un til spring. Don McDonald of Terry, Mont , who has been visiting with the fam ily of C. E. McComb for a short time, and also looking over the val ley with a view to locating, left for home yesterday. He expects to re turn next spring. Mr. and Mrs. H. Shelton and daughter of Port Angeles, Wash., stopped off Saturday for a brief visit with H. S. Brumble and family. Stansell returned yesterday from Portland. He has secured em ployment and will arrange to move his family there at once. About 25,000 pounds of Union Leader tobacco was unloaded at the depot here yesterday for the B. P. Thelss ft Co.'s wholesale house. S. M. Nealon and daughters, Misses May and Rose, were in yes terday from their pleasant home at Table Rock, doing Christmas shop ping. S. A. Shaffer was In the city yes terday, having stopped for a shot time on his way home to Gold Hill, from his mines on Forest creek, several miles west of here. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Barr left y terday for Southern California points. They will stop en route at Oakland for a short time. They ok pect to be absent most of the wlntor. Invitations are out announcing the marriage of Miss Grace Rose of Phoenix to Mr. Clyde C. Catn of Corvallls, Wednesday evening, Jan uary 6. at the home of Mrs. Rose, lo Phoenix. O. V. Myers returned yesterday from a stay of some two weeks in Linn county. Mr. Myers owns some land east of Albany, near where there Is prospect work being done for oil. HAD NARROW ESCAPE. Son of J. W. Bell Had Leg Broken by Tree Falling on Him. The son of J. W. Bell of Talent, aged about 4 years, met with a se rious accident Wednesday. It seems the child has been living with the family of A. Weiss on Dry creek for some time, and when Mr. WeiBs went out near the house to cut some wood the little fellow went along to see the tree fall. Mr. Weiss placed him where he felt certain he was out of danger, but the tree fell in the op posite direction from what was In tended. As It started, Weiss yelled to the boy to run, which he started to do. but before he was out of its way a limb struck him, breaking his left leg a short distance above the knee. Dr. Conroy was at once sent for and reduced the fracture and the little fellow was resting easy at last ac- counts. TEAM RAN AWAV. Ethel and Mabel Anderson of Woodvllle met with a bad runaway accident yesterday. Miss Mabel was thrown out and was severely shaken up and bruised, but fortunately no bones were broken. The young ladles were taken to ranch near by and the neonle living there brought them back to town. OX WEDDING TRIP. Mr. and Mrs. Halley of Summer- land, Stop. Over at Medford. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Halley of Sum- merland, Cal., arrived In Medford Sunday and will spend the holidays 1th the Halley boys of this city. These people are her on a little wedding trip, they having been mar ried at the home of tha bride's slater Sacramento, on December 10. Mrs. Halley was formerly Leona Hendricks and was a resident of Summerland. Mr. Halley la a tin. smith by trade and Is extensively en. gaged in th. manufacture of tin and copper ware goods in Summerland, and as well, owns a beautiful home there, to which he will take his bride upon their return from Medford. REDDY VS. KEENE. Case I. Now In Hands of Jury; Ver dict Likely Rendered Today. The case of Mayor Reddy against Dr. Keene for commission on a land deal came up yesterday at Jackson ville. The case was given to the Jury at 4:30 yesterday afternoon, but it la not expected a verdict will be reached until some, time today. Here for Holidays. Alt Weeks, of the orchard com pany of Weeks ft Deuel, is In the city spending the holidays. Mr Weeks tells that he Is decidedly busy at the orchard near Woodvllle this winter. He Is putting out 100 acres of pear trees, comprising all the commercial varieties, and that he has put up two and a halt miles of rabbit-proof fence, this enclrclina a good part of land set to trees. !
