ing on Sunday evening, taking the
train for Medford Monday morning.
George 'W. Daley and family and
Bert Peacney and sister. Miss Bertha
Peachey, arrived from their outing
on tbe headwaters of tbe Umpqua
river, last Saturday evening, but I
have not learned the result of their
trip only that they had a very pleas
ant time.

Mrs. Miller and son and daughter
Miss Frances, called for dinner last
Sunday, on their way to Butte Falls,
Mr. Harris' many friends here are

his normal condition so fast. They
came as far as Eagle Point In his au
tomobile and from here went In a
carriage. He seems to think that he
will be able to go out on a hunting
expedition in the course of the next
two weeks.
Last Saturday Mrs. K. Meule, her
daughter. Miss Blanch, and Mrs. T.
J. Williams were pleasant callers at
the Sunnyside. where they took (Hu
rler, after which they took the Kagt-j
Point and Trull stage for Trail,
where they were met by friends, who
look them to the hatchery, where
they expect to spend some time fish
ing and rusticating. While they were
here shey visited our celebrated sul
phur springs and were very favor
ably Impressed with the beverage.

There are 40 people In our camp.
"Stub" Wakefield hasn't shot any
thing but chipmunks.
I. R. Robison has shot a five-point
buck and W. R. Coleman a two
pointer. All yours truly has succeeded in
landing on are huckleberries and a
cracking good time. .
We have had frosts two mornings
and one day It thundered end the
next day It didn't rain.
W. R. Coleman, J. R. Robison and
Dr. Hargrave took an eight-mile
hunt a couple of days ago. The doc
tor got himself lost In the tall tim
ber and his companions spent the
day finding him and bringing bim
into camp.
We are having all kinds of a good
time In the Dead Indian country. We
are stopping at the Furry boys'
ranch on Lost Prairie, and the boys
are very obliging, supplying us with
fresh milk from their dairy herd
and with pasture knee high for our
horses.

says: The Klamath chamber of
commerce had for its guests over

men, .wearing khaki clothing and
high - boots, together with beards of
several days' growth. Tbe apparent
backwoodsmen were tbe representa
tives of the Portland Y. M. C. A. wbo
are on a "hike" through the Klam
ath country. They visited ' Crater
Lake and walked to the Klamath
Agency boat landing on the upper
lake, where they were met by tbe
steamer Wlnema and brought to this
city to be entertained over night by
tbe commercial body.
They will return to Odessa, an up
per lake resort, by boat, and from
there will hike across the hills to
Ashland. They no longer consider
the ordinary mountains of this re
gion anything more than mere hills
and frequently before breakfast walk
miles In order to get up an appetite.

NORTH YAKIMA, Wash., Aug. 14.
M. Poilier of this city called at the
courthouse yesterday and gave his
consent to the marriage of his twin
daughters, who are but 16 years of
age.
All things considered, this double.
marriage will be about the youngest
marriage in tbe county. The husbands-to-be
of these youthful twins
are also young. They each had to
have the consent of their lathers be
fore they could obtain the necessary
marriage licenses. .
Miss Celestlne Polrier will become
tbe wife of Horace J. Samve, aged
IS, and Miss Ernestine will wed Al
exander Bucbey, aged 18.

BURNS WIFE ALIVE.
JACKSON, Miss., Aug. 14. A
special to the Dally News from Ox
ford, Miss.7 says that John Goolsby,
a prominent farmer, residing near
that place, while In a fit of anger,
knocked his wife down with a heavy
scantling, poured coal oil over her
prostrate body and then set fire to
her clothing. She was rescued by
neighbors, who extinguished the
flames, but she is In a critical con
dition. Goolsby has been placed In
Jail at Oxford.

his motion for a new trial.
Drowns While Wife Looks On.
EUGENE, Or., Aug. 18. A. E.
Taylor waa drowned yesterday be
fore he eyes of his wife and child In
the McKenzie at Hayden's bridge
while fishing. Desperate efforts of
A. T. Miles to save the man almost
caused him to lose his own life. The
body wai recovered.

EUREKA, Cal., Aug. 17. Th
steamer Aberdeen, lumber laden,
which atruck the south spit of the
Humboldt bar this morning, was
beached tonight and an attempt will
be made tq patch the hull up and

Rancher Kills Neighbor.

John Anderson, a neighbor. The
men became Involved In a dispute
over an Irrigation ditch which Lay
ton and his partner were digging
across Anderson's property. As a

surrendered to the authorities.

COLUMBUS, O., Aug. 18. John
Truss, colored, who killed Mrs. Min
nie Green here last night by cut
ting her throat, was caught today

JAIL INMATES COMPLAIN.
HARR1SBURG, Aug. 18. In
mates of the Perry county Jail are
being overfed and are actually com
plaining about It. This unusual state
of affairs waa discovered by Brom
ley Wharton, general agent for tbe
state board of charities, who Inspect
ed the new Bloomfield institution
this week.

plaints about the food, but aupposed
It was the usual one of not enough
to eat. Then when be assembled the
prisoners be heard this from tbe
spokesman:

application of counsel, Mrs. Helen
Kelly Gould has procured In the su
preme court an order directing her
husband, Prank J. Gould, to rile
within 24 hours his answor to her
suit for divorce. Counsel for Mr
Gould stated that an answer had
bfen made to the complaint, but this
was denied by Mrs. Gould's counsel.
The complaint filed alleges mis
conduct on the part of Mr. tlould on
July 2.ri, 1905, while he was at North
Sydney, Cape Breton, cruising on the
yacht llelentta. Mrs. Gould doe not
ask for alimony In her petition, hill
requests the custody of her two chll
dren, Helen Margaret, 6, and Dor
othy, fi years old.

Stanley Ketchell of Grand Rapids,

city with a shower of punches to the
Jaw and the body. Thomas had no
change whatever. He merely wn a
chopping block for Ketchell, while
the latter left the ring without a
scratch on him.
